The Brief

Rising Sun were brought on as a lead vendor to create a fully digital photoreal Charlotte, who interacts with other characters, her environment and her intricate webs.

Charlotte has over twenty minutes of screentime, and her onscreen presence had to be realistic and convincing from a nature documentary perspective, as well as allow the audience to empathise with her joy and sorrow.

The Creative Process

The team at Rising Sun worked on Charlotte and her webs over a period of 18 months. A lot of that time went into the design process to get Charlotte 'just right'. Because of the iconic nature of the story and everything it entails, Charlotte had to be motherly and endearing, but at the same time she had to be a spider. She had to talk to Wilbur, who was a real pig with face replacement, so she had to be real.

Much time and effort was devoted to her development to ensure she had the screen presence that was required for such a well-known and much loved character.
