The
Brief
RSP worked with production to set up the previsualisation
department at Fox Studios with the PLF. The task was to previs the entire film, ensuring
that Director Bryan Singer had the resources
he needed close at hand to fulfil his creative vision for the film.
RSP subsequently contributed on a technical level to help test the
application of the new Panavision Genesis camera for visual
effects. RSP were onset at Fox studios and in Tamworth for
vfx supervision on the Flashback and Kent Farm sequences.
In addition to Superman’s climactic return to earth,
RSP animated young Clark Kent as a photorealistic digital
double, seamlessly blending between live action and computer-generated
characters.
Mark Stetson & Director Bryan Singer had a very particular
goal for what these key sequences were to contribute to
the film, and RSP ensured that their expectations were met
through clever visual effects solutions. |

The
Creative Process
RSP were responsible
for the development of Superman’s xray vision, which
was used in a number of shots throughout the film.
Starting with concepts, RSP workshopped the theory and look
of the effect with Bryan Singer throughout production. RSP
collaborated with Mark Stetson onset to ensure that the
elements that were shot could integrate with the RSP Xray
Tool that was developed for the task.
RSP’s ability to communicate on a creative & technical
level with the production team allowed Bryan Singer to achieve
his request for an organic and magical feel to the xray
vision.
This effect was applied mostly to keep an eye on Lois, as Superman followed her in the Daily Planet elevator, peeked in to her home, and examined her body for injuries.
